Though the day dawned with sunny blue skies, Mother Nature had other plans for Hancock’s second Employee Appreciation Event on July 21 — heavy rain, wind gusts, lightning and tornado threats.

But she did not keep the residents of Hancock from coming out to express their deep appreciation for all that town employees do. The grills – knocked over by the storm – were uprighted, a lovely buffet was served and the celebration continued. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who organized and implemented the event, the generous town residents and businesses who contributed money and/or food, the musicians who added a festive atmosphere, Steve Schuch, who composed a song for the event, and the Hancock elementary students who created beautiful thank you cards.

The event was established to honor the dedication of town employees. A sad ironic twist: most of the fire, police and public works personnel could not attend the celebration to honor them, as they were out on call for downed trees and storm emergencies.
