On Wednesday, Aug. 17, the Harris Center for Conservation Education will present “Kids Count for Wildlife: Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Survey” at Moose Brook
Children ages 9 through 18 can kick up stones and muck as they survey Hancock’s Moose Brook for water scorpions, predaceous diving beetles, water pennies and more. Participants can look under rocks for sparkling stone caddisfly cases and discover what creatures like stonefly, dragonfly and mayfly nymphs can tell us about the water quality of the brook.
Meet at 10 a.m. at the Hancock Depot, and the event will be done by 11 a.m. Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an interested family member. All others can attend without parental supervision. Rain date is Aug. 18. Space is limited, and registration is required at harriscenter.org/events. For information, contact Susie at spikol@harriscenter.org or 603-525-3394.
Also on Aug. 17, the Harris Center will present “Nature on Tap: Stories from the Woods” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Post & Beam Brewing at 40 Grove St. in Peterborough.
Join UNH Cooperative Extension forester Steve Roberge for an evening of tales from the forest. Hear about some of the strangest and most-interesting things he had encountered while working in the woods. Space is limited, and registration is recommended at harriscenter.org/events.
