Avenue A’s Community Theatre, ACT!, is staging “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza (One-Act),” by Don Zolidis, Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Antrim Town Hall stage, 66 Main St.
Admission is by donation. The production is Avenue A’s second show.
“The Greek Mythology Extravaganza” is a parody of Greek myths peppered with slapstick humor. Two battling narrators cover Greek mythology from Pandora’s Box to Jason and the Argonauts using theatrical mischief. The show culminates in the battle of the Iliad.
“We wanted to laugh together this summer,” stated Jacqueline Roland, director of teen programs at The Grapevine Family & Community Resource Center. ACT Co-Director Sean Roberts shares that “By choosing a show that we thought people would enjoy, the cast worked even harder while having fun. We are incredibly proud of them and their crazy ideas!”
ACT! was born last year, when a group of volunteers directed by Elizabeth Moore practiced throughout the summer and performed a live radio play for outdoor audiences. ACT! is open to ages 13 and up. It is co-directed by Eve Pierce and Roberts, with Cheyenne Heinselman as art director. Elizabeth Moore helps advise the group. This year’s production includes teenagers, young adults who are home from college for the summer and adults from the community. ACT! welcomes people with disabilities and all levels of experience with theater. “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” is offered by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
