The Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club has sworn in its new president.
The club passed down the gavel to Peter Russell of Jaffrey on June 30 at the new president’s home. Russell joined the Rotary in March of 2012, and will serve as president for the 2022-2023 term.
Responsibilities for the president include organizing community service events, leading board meetings and facilitating Rotary meetings.
Russell said the one-year terms allow all members to get a shot in a leadership position.
“It’s good to take my turn and do my share,” he said.
At the Gavel Night, former president Ben Wheeler of Jaffrey thanked Rotarians for supporting his philanthropic efforts during his 2021-2022 term. After passing the torch to Russell, Wheeler was presented with an “E” for excellence for his dedication to the Rotary. The giant letter also helped to fill in the missing “E” in Wheeler’s plaque.
Jaffrey Town Manager and Rotary member Jon Frederick said the club is in good hands with Russell as the newest leader.
“I think he’ll do a great job; he’s well suited for the role,” said Frederick.
Russell said his first order of business as the newest president is to not change what has been working.
“We are all just going to keep doing what we’ve been doing with community service,” said Russell.
To close out the ceremony, the club welcomed its newest Rotarian, Tom Frazier of Fitzwilliam.
The club’s next meeting will take place at Franklin Pierce University at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 14.
