A Peterborough man died Sunday morning after a crash between his bicycle and a motorcycle in Hancock.

According to Hancock Police Chief Tom Horne, the bicyclist, 65-year-old John Wojtas of Peterborough, was traveling in the southbound lane of Route 202 at the intersection of Elmwood Road before being struck. After medical personnel attempted live-saving measures, Wojtas was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It appears the bicyclist encroached on the other lane,” Horne said. “It appears the accident occurred in the southbound lane. All debris was found in the northbound lane.”

Emergency services responded at approximately 10:20 a.m. to the crash. The driver of the motorcycle, 26-year-old Seamus Wibben of Newport, was transported to Concord Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 202 was closed until 4 p.m., and traffic was rerouted around the scene. A collision analysis and reconstruction team from New Hampshire State Police responded and continues to assist with the investigation. Horne said the investigation is ongoing and that more-specific information will be forthcoming.

The following agencies provided assistance: New Hampshire State Police, Hancock Fire Department, Bennington Fire Department, Peterborough Ambulance Service, Antrim Police Department, Bennington Police Department, Peterborough Police Department, Francestown Police Department, New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Mike’s Towing and Recovery Service and Jellison Funeral Home.
