The Antrim Eclectic Book Club will meet Thursday, June 16, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at James A. Tuttle Library, 45 Main St. in Antrim.
The group will discuss Frank McCourt’s “Teacher Man.” After writing his international best-seller “Angela’ Ashes,” McCourt decided to examine his teaching career and philosophy. His book recounts how he stressed to his students their personal responsibility for their own education as well as the value of employing stories in teaching literature. Free copies of the book are available at the library.
Possible discussion topics include what is most captivating about McCourt and his stories, how McCourt drew upon his child hood to explain his performance as a teacher and whether it hurt his proficiency as a teacher, some of the ways McCourt motivated his students, what goes into making an inspired teacher and what makes for a great memoir.
