No matter what happened on Thursday night, the ConVal girls’ lacrosse season was ending. With another tough, backloaded Division II schedule handing them a six-game losing streak that put the Cougars out of the playoffs, ConVal’s senior night game with Spaulding was nothing but a formality. Still, the game was full of blue-and-gold exuberance.
“They say do what brings you joy,” head coach Derek Sorbello said. “Coaching this team brings me joy.”
The Cougars won 21-7 behind a five-goal game from senior Molly Dishong.
“She’s probably one of the most unselfish players I have ever coached,” Sorbello said. “She could have had a lot more points over her career. She makes sure she passes to the open person, and she clears the ball.”
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Holdredge got out of the net and played attack, scoring her first career goal. Senior Caitlin Beal scored four goals; junior Hayden Kaltsas had three; junior Makennah McPherson and sophomore Abby Lussier had two each, and juniors Addie Lustenberger, Grace Pelletieri, Lily Heck and Emma Martino had one each.
Seniors Natalie Claflin and Gwen Inglis didn’t make it on the scoresheet Thursday, but both had a positive impact on the game and on the program, Sorbello said.
