Elizabeth Goodhue will be the next speaker in the Peterborough Presents series Monday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the 1833 Room of Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St. in Peterborough.

For 33 years, Goodhue has been advocating for her son William, who has Down syndrome. In her book, “The Truth About Down Syndrome: Lessons Learned from Raising a Son with Trisomy-21,” she traces their journey through a maze of social, governmental, medical and school bureaucracies. Her mission since his birth has been to break stereotypes around unique abilities and to share her experience with parents, educators, social workers, doctors, administrators and anyone else touched by someone who differs from the norm.

In 2014, Goodhue left her teaching career of 24 years and moved to Mexico. One year later, she moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She began to write during those travels, and published her book upon returning to the United States in 2018.

The program is open to the public. It will be in-person only and will not be filmed.

Peterborough Town Library created the Peterborough Presents series to give local people a platform to share their expertise, creative work or knowledge with the public. For information about the series schedule, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org/peterboroughpresents.
