On Friday, April 22, Jeremy Griffus from the Nashua Adult Learning Center’s Xplorations Program visited Greenfield Elementary School to walk students through a series of interactive learning activities during the school’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Day.
The morning kicked off with third-grade students learning to code with Spheros Robots. Fourth-graders also participated in this activity later in the day. Students in second grade, along with their assigned preschool buddies, made elephant’s toothpaste – a foamy substance that forms when water, hydrogen peroxide, yeast and dish soap are mixed together. The day concluded with kindergartners and first graders building and launching water rockets.
“What a fantastic way to engage students in hands-on learning activities in the STEM field. The events were not only educational, but fun, too,” Principal Colleen Roy stated. “They prompted our students to think on their feet and work as a team to achieve goals rooted in scientific exploration.”
