The Jaffrey Civic Center’s eight-part monthly speaker series, “Stories to Share,” concludes its first season with Alan Rumrill, executive director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County, Friday, May 6, at 5 p.m.

Rumrill’s talk is titled “Mountain as Muse: The Artists who Painted Mt. Monadnock.” For almost 200 years, Mount Monadnock has been a source of inspiration for artists. In his presentation, Rumrill will discuss the art of many painters and their work in the region. His talk will also investigate what their art tells us about the mountain, the region and the artists themselves.

Rumrill is a native of Stoddard, where his family has lived since 1770. He has written nine books and lectures regularly on southwest New Hampshire’s history. His column appears weekly in the Keene Sentinel. In Joe Steinfield’s absence, Jeff Crocker, one of this season’s previous speakers, will serve as moderator.

The program will be available as an in-person event at the Jaffrey Civic Center, 40 Main St. in Jaffrey, as well as via Zoom. Registration is required, and in-person attendance requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
