The annual Children and the Arts Festival is returning to downtown Peterborough this May with a theme of “Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!” The 27th annual festival will be Saturday, May 21, and will include storytelling, music, plays and hands-on art activities, as well as a parade at noon.

“We’re so happy to have the festival back and in person this year,” Children and the Arts Festival Chair Tina Kriebel stated. “This year’s theme is really fun. People have been coming up with some pretty amazing ideas around the topic of bugs.”

As always, the festival, which is dedicated to children and families, will be free. While the event will take place in person, organizers will follow whatever recommended health guidelines are in place at the time.

During 2020, Children and the Arts became a separate 501(c)(3) organization, at the request of the Town of Peterborough’s finance department. Organizers are looking forward to continuing the relationship with the town and are committed to raising the additional funds needed to cover insurance, financial management and other operational costs. In 2021, the Children and the Arts Festival received a $1,350 grant from the John and Maude Corser Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. This grant will help support the May festival and the festival’s overall mission.

Recently, the Children and the Arts Committee welcomed its first financial sponsor for 2022, the Kiwanis Club of Peterborough.

“With the Kiwanis Club’s focus on supporting youth in this region, they are a great fit with our free festival and mission,” stated Kriebel.
