The Peterborough Concert Series will present singer-songwriter Ryan Montbleau and his band with local indie folk band Modern Fools opening Friday, April 8, at 8p.m. at the Peterborough Town House.
Montbleau began his career in the early 2000s by performing around his native Massachusetts and went on to share bills with stars like Tedeschi Trucks Band, AniDiFranco, The Wood Brothers, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Mavis Staples.
For his recent album, rather than release the entire 15-track record all at once, he decided he would unveil the album more deliberately over the course of four separate EPs, each inspired by an element of the natural world.
First up is “Wood,” a rustic, earthy trio of tracks taking stock of just what it means to be human in these bewildering times.
“The songs on ‘Fire’ were a chance for me to just let loose and have fun,” stated Montbleau.
The arrival of “Water” cools things down, with a more-sober, meditative quality. The final chapter is “Air,” as Montbleau comes to terms with the transient, fleeting nature of existence.
“Just know that you are not alone, and that’s all you get to know now,” he sings on “The Dust.”
Opening for Montbleau are the local indie, folk, alternative country musicians that make up Modern Fools.
Tickets start at $35 and are available at The Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough or online at peterboroughconcertseries.com.
