“Free-staters” are about 5,000 people who immigrated into New Hampshire to form a “libertarian utopia.” They move, usually to smaller towns where they can run for office. They shut down libraries, garbage pickup and, in one town, cut the school budget in half.

It is a story that isn’t getting enough coverage in mainstream media.

What is a libertarian utopia? There will be no public funding of roads, schools, police or fire. Everyone will be on their own. Environmental regulation? Workplace safety? Public health? Free and fair elections? In a libertarian utopia, everyone looks out for themselves — I can build a road in front of my house if I want, but you don’t have to.

Someone reading this may think, “Well, that will never happen.” But they have already begun their takeover. The NH Liberty Alliance now has 90 endorsed candidates in the state Legislature, including House Majority Leader Jason Osborne. They include free-staters who have immigrated into the state, as well as homegrown ones. And they are chipping away at educational quality control, vaccine requirements, environmental protections, child and family services and state law enforcement staffing.

With the midterm elections coming in November, everyone needs to be paying attention to who these candidates are. Vote them out, and keep new ones out, before it’s too late.
