April is a busy month over in Rindge. Aside from the yearly spring thrills of buds returning to the tips of lilac branches, robins dotting our yards and crocuses poking their curious heads through the soil, the Town of Rindge has plenty to offer the community in April.
Egg hunt: The Rindge Recreation Department is holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt April 9 for Rindge residents ages 1 to 10. Bring your basket down to Wellington Park at 9:30 a.m. to meet the Easter Bunny and start the hunt at 10 a.m. sharp. (Don’t be a minute late or you’ll miss it!)
Earth Day cleanup: With the melting of the roadside snow, we are greeted with a roadside mess! The Rindge Woman’s Club and the Rindge Chamber of Commerce are asking for your help this Earth Day in cleaning up our roads. Special blue bags will be dispersed Saturday April 16, at the Rindge Transfer Station for community members to use in collecting roadside trash. Fill those bags and return them on April 23 between 8 a.m. and noon. Plus, each bag filled with roadside trash earns you a chance to win a $50 gift card. This is a great family activity. Thank you to the club and chamber for organizing this effort!
#PlantWildFlowers: The Ingalls Memorial Library and the Rindge Conservation Commission are both taking part in a nationwide program, #PlantWildFlowers, this spring. Ingalls will be offering patrons packets of seeds that will bloom into flowers to attract and support pollinating insects. Additionally, on April 21 at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., the library will be showing “My Garden of a Thousand Bees,” a PBS Nature documentary. Keep an eye out, as well, for additional wildflower plantings by the Conservation Commission at Ford Family Nature Preserve, Rogers Landing, Tetreault Park and at the town forest. Email the COMMISSION at rindgeconcom@town.rindge.nh.us to learn more about native wildflower-planting.
Scholarship deadline: It’s not too late for graduating seniors who reside in Rindge or Jaffrey to submit a completed application for the MilliporeSigma-MLK Student Service Scholarship. Two students who plan to pursue further education or training beyond high school will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship for demonstrating their commitment and dedication to community service. Applications can be found at the Rindge and Jaffrey public libraries and at the CHS Guidance Department. Application deadline is April 22. Email jaffreyrindgemlk@gmail.com with any questions.
Show your gratitude: Each year as spring arrives, I feel a renewed sense of gratitude for each moment in the warm, fresh air, and for the signs of new life popping up around me. But any season is the right season to look around your community and show appreciation for the good others do. Over in Rindge, I have felt very grateful to the Rindge Memorial School staff who stand in all kinds of weather (such as the recent sand-swirling gusty wind!) to direct traffic and safely guide our community’s children to and from the school building each day. Thank you, RMS educators!

Dear Readers,
I noticed recently that the sliding glass doors to the future home of Marshalls at Cheshire Marketplace are installed! I want to know your thoughts on the arrival of this store to Rindge. What excites you about having a Marshalls in town? Does this store fill a need in the community? Could there be drawbacks? Do you know when it will be opening?
