To recognize and thank those who have served the country, Peterborough offers a number of veterans’ tax credit programs. Veterans who own their homes and call Peterborough their permanent place of residence are encouraged to apply. Information is available at peterboroughnh.gov/departments/assessing/veterans_credits_programs.php.
Those over the age of 65 who meet eligibility requirements (including income and asset limits) may qualify for the elderly exemption. Information is available at peterboroughnh.gov/departments/assessing/elderly_and_blind_exemptions.php. The exemption can help ease the property tax burden of senior homeowners who have fixed and/or limited incomes.
The application deadline for both the veterans’ credits and elderly exemption is April 15. People who were previously granted a credit or exemption and have moved to a different residence in town need to reapply, as credits and exemptions do not automatically transfer. For information or to request application paperwork via mail, call the town Assessing Department at 603-924-8000, Ext. 112, or send email to akreutz@peterboroughnh.gov.
