By this point in the season, most have had their fill of New England winter weather and all that comes with it. For me, March can feel particularly grueling. It’s just such a slog!

But this March, I’m prepared with a handful of local, family friendly and cost-sensible “must-dos” to put on the calendar. Here’s a short list of Rindge-area activities and goings-on to help keep the March madness at bay.

Trail-walking – Hands down, my favorite local trail in Rindge is at Converse Meadow. This is an enjoyable, serene and leisurely trail. From the moment you leave your car in the parking area, there are an abundance of natural and man-made treasures to find. Bridges, benches, lookouts and wildlife abound can be found on this 1 1/2-mile trail, which makes it a fun walk for all ages.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Head on over to downtown Jaffrey March 12 at 2 p.m. for the return of their St. Patrick’s Day Parade! I’m looking forward to joining our neighbors over in Jaffrey to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the culture of Ireland with Irish music, dancers and floats. This parade is a great community event – hope to see you there!

New Hampshire Maple Producers Weekend – The weekend of March 19 and 20 marks the annual New Hampshire Maple Producers Weekend.  Many sugarhouses open their doors to visitors on this weekend, inviting folks to taste their product and learn about maple-sugaring. Fieldstone Farm Sugarhouse over in Rindge is just around the corner for my family, so it’s usually our first stop. We love their syrup and farm animals.

Serve — Serving in your community costs nothing and can have a big payout. Let’s mark our calendars with a date to check in with a neighbor who could use a hand, give a much-needed blood donation with the Red Cross or spend a morning with the Fridays for Future group in downtown Jaffrey at 8 a.m. to raise awareness about climate change.

Movie Day at Ingalls Library – On March 24, Ingalls Library will show the film “Hidden Figures” at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., and serve free popcorn! This film is entertaining, thought-provoking and suitable for a broad range of ages. Older children can appreciate the events in this movie, especially when paired with the picture book by the same name.

Hot Cocoa on a Whim – Recently, my 4-year-old and I decided on a whim to stop in for a hot cocoa at the Hometown Diner in Rindge. We cozied right up to the counter on retro swivel stools and so enjoyed the spontaneous fun of a hot cocoa on a cold morning at a classic diner.  Yum!
