The Norway Pond Festival Singers, with soprano soloists Mary Bonhag and Abigail Fischer, will perform at 4 p.m.Sunday, Feb. 20, at Hancock’s First Congregational Church, 47 Main St. The performance will also be livestreamed.
The singers will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” accompanied by the Apple Hill String Quartet, who will be joined by organist Mary Ann Fleming, trumpet player Ryan O’Connell and oboist Nathalie Vela. Percussionist Aaron Trant and the Kiddo Chorale join to present the regional premiere of Paul Halley’s “Freedom Trilogy,” a medley of American and African spirituals.
The Apple Hill String Quartet are artistic directors and resident musicians at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in Nelson, New Hamphshire. They serve as music directors and core faculty for Apple Hill’s Summer Chamber Music Workshop, attended by 300 students of diverse ages, experience levels and backgrounds. During the regular concert season, the quartet performs concerts and conducts residencies locally in New Hampshire, nationally in major U.S. cities and internationally. In addition to the Vivaldi, the quartet will present the “Cavatina” from Beethoven’s Opus 130 for string quartet.
Bonhag is a recognized soprano who calls Vermont home. Fischer has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Rhode Island Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Boston Baroque, Mercury Orchestra Houston and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
The concert, as usual, will be one hour long with no intermission. Masks and vaccinations are required for the in-person performance. Tickets to both the in-person and livestream performances are available at musiconnorwaypond.org.
