Hancock residents are being invited to share feedback on town recreation, in a survey that Recreation Committee Chair Jessica Quinn hopes will help guide committee members as they plan for years ahead.

“It has been a few years since Hancock has had an active recreation committee,” Quinn said. “As we’re starting back up and thinking about what programs and activities to offer, we thought it would be important to have input from the Hancock community.”

The survey asks residents to share how frequently they or members of their household used or visited various town recreation facilities and parks, such as Norway Pond Beach, Norway Pond Boat Launch, Moosebrook Park and the playground at Hancock Elementary School. It also asks residents to explain their reasoning for not using these facilities, if applicable, and to detail what types of recreation programs would be interesting to them.

These specific areas of feedback will help with both short- and long-term planning, according to Quinn, in terms of finalizing plans for 2022 and looking ahead.

“We also plan to use the survey responses to inform our consideration of more-substantial projects that might take a few years to complete,” she said, for example, enhancing available facilities at Moosebrook Park. 

While the committee has no specific goals in terms of numbers of responses, Quinn said it hopes to at least generate enough input to give the committee a “general sense” of what most interests the Hancock community.

“We invite people to share their candid feedback and think big with the ideas they share,” Quinn said. “We certainly can’t promise to fulfill everyone’s wishes, but knowing what people are dreaming about is so helpful in understanding what matters to people and where we should focus our energy.”

The survey will be open until Jan. 14. All residents who fill out the survey and provide contact information will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to their choice of Hancock Market, Fiddleheads or Hancock Inn.
