The NHIAA field hockey regular season wrapped up Friday, leaving ConVal and Conant on the outside of the playoffs looking in and Mascenic with a daunting task ahead.

Mascenic stumbles as season concludes

The Vikings lost their final two contests of the regular season last week, and the skid has serious playoff repercussions. Thursday’s 3-2 loss to Newport and Friday’s 1-0 loss to Kearsarge leaves Mascenic at 8-6 and drops them into the 9th seed in Division III, one game behind No. 8 Berlin. That means the Vikings will travel all the way up to Berlin to open the playoffs on Wednesday at 3 p.m., rather than hosting.

Conant drops pair, drops out

Even after Wednesday’s shutout loss to undefeated No. 1 Hopkinton, the Orioles were still alive going into Friday’s regular-season finale against Stevens. But even with two goals from senior Olyvia Middleton and a first career score for Graecen Kirby, Conant got the short end of the stick – a 4-3 loss leaving them one game out of the postseason.

“Looking forward to next season,” head coach Jackie Br own said. “My sophomore class is so incredibly talented, they will only continue to improve!”

Conant finished at 2-11-1. The Orioles graduate Bella Hayes, Chelsea Dupuis, Tessa Spingola, Emily Muilenberg and Middleton.

ConVal wraps with shutout loss

The ConVal field hockey team lost 1-0 to Hollis-Brookline on Friday to finish the season at 3-11, out of the Division II playoffs.

Senior Molly Dishong and juniors Hayden Kaltsas and Makennah McPherson were each able to get shots on goal, but the Cougars were unable to convert their opportunities into goals, coach Kelly Shirk said.  Senior goalie Makenzie Anderson made six saves but Hollis was able to sneak one past to come up with the win.

Before the game, ConVal honored graduating seniors Emalee Naylor, Morgan MacLaren, Natalie Tremblay, Sarah Holdrege, Dishong and Anderson.
