Former Rindge Deputy Tax Collector Andrea LaVache has taken up the mantle of tax collector for the remainder of the year, after the departure of her predecessor, Carol Donovan.
LaVache has been serving as the deputy under Donovan for the past year. In Rindge, the tax collector position is elected in three-year terms. Donovan, who has served as tax collector since 1993, was reelected to the position in March of 2020.
Donovan recently announced she would be retiring from the position, and stepping down prior to the end of her term.
In cases when the tax collector cannot fulfill their duties, the deputy tax collector โ who is selected by the tax collector and approved by the Select Board โ who has all the same authority and can perform any duties assigned to them by the tax collector. LaVache will officially serve as the new Tax Collector until next March, when she will have to run for the remaining term on the ballot.
โCarol recently retired as Tax Collector after decades of faithful and dedicated service. I am proud to be fufilling her term as Tax Collector. I look forward to working with the residents of Rindge,โ LaVache said.
Going forward, there is a change in the Tax Department hours. The new hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed on Friday.
