The Antrim Eclectic Book Club will meet at the COVID-safe, Tuttle Library second floor on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 3 p.m., in person and also by Zoom. (The Zoom address will be published on the Tuttle Library website and the Town list-serv.)
The club will be examining John Fowles’ “The Magus.” This is an account of a young British teacher, stranded with his students on a bleak Greek island, who falls under the influence of a mysterious wizard. Kind of a 1950’s Harry Potter tale.
The Aug. 26 discussion questions include:
1. What kind of a person is Nicholas? What is he running to? Running from?
2. What is the rationale for Conchis’s masquerade?
3. What points about human existence is Fowles making?
4. What is the meaning of the novel’s ending?
