The Franklin Pierce University track & field program had a busy weekend, with athletes competing on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the team competed at American International in Springfield, Mass., at the AIC Invitational II. On Sunday, the squad traveled to New Haven, Conn., and visited Southern Connecticut State for the James Barber Invitational. Sophomore Connor Everidge highlighted the weekend on Saturday, as he beat the school record in the shot put, with his throw of 15.13 meters, which was good enough to win the event.
Elsewhere, freshman Sal Lando took first in the discus after a throw of 38.48 meters. In the javelin, sophomore Cameron Morton threw 33.32 meters to take first.
The Raven women were in action at AIC as well and went to work in the field events. In the shot put, sophomore Julieth Nwosu took first for her 13.06-meter throw. Her sister, freshman Nkechi Nwosu, took third for her 11.76-meter throw. The sisters Nwosu went one-two in the discus, with Nkechi winning (38.74m) and Julieth in second (37.38m). In the javelin, junior Jessica Brewster took first after a 29.55-meter throw.
On Sunday at SCSU, Franklin Pierceโs runners got to work. Freshman Stephen Harris won the 200 meters (22.08), while freshman Nathan Rinaldi took second in the 400 meters (51.57).
Not to be outdone, freshman Evan McNeice and senior Ryan Ducrow went one-two in the 1500 meters, with times of 4:17.33 and 4:24.27, respectively.
Franklin Pierce posted a pair of relay victories on Sunday, as both the 4×100-meter (43.98) and 4×400-meter (3:34.53) squads took first place. The 4×100 lineup featured junior Ethan Pezzullo, junior Devin Jones, freshman Angel Gonzalez and Harris, while the 4×400 team was Jones to Harris to Rinaldi to junior Sekou Veillard.
The Raven women at SCSU chalked up six top-five finishes on Sunday. It was a one-two for the Ravens in the 100-meter dash, as sophomore Nyjah Young-Bey won in 12.87 seconds and was followed by fellow sophomore Destini Hill-Edwards in second (12.94). Graduate student Bethaney Donnelly won the 5,000 meters (18:12.45).
In field events at SCSU, junior Paola Brena got up and over 1.60 meters to win the high jump. Julieth Nwosu made it a two-win weekend as she claimed the shot put for the second straight day, with a throw of 13.03 meters.
The Ravens are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, April 15, when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State.
