Fire danger is high in the spring: humidity is low, vegetation ignites quickly, and although there’s typically enough moisture in the ground to naturally control a burn, we’re entering this season in a rainfall deficit, Antrim Fire Chief Marshall Gale said. Burn permits are also still necessary for fires: landowners found to be setting fires outside without a permit will be asked to extinguish them, Gale said, after responding to one illegal burn on Wednesday and following up on a second report the next day.
