Conant splits with Huskies
After handing preseason favorite Monadnock their first loss of the year Wednesday, Conant traveled to Swanzey Friday night, where the Huskies turned the tables on the Orioles and won 57-51.
Conant climbed back in the game after falling behind in the first half and had it at a one-possession game in the final minutes, but Monadnock closed it out behind 15 points from Jake Kidney and 14 from Devin Putnam. Malique Motuzas had 13 to lead Conant and Manny Hodgson added 12.
In Wednesday’s 47-36 win over Monadnock, Conant got a 24-point performance from Colson Seppala as the Orioles weathered a Monadnock second-half comeback bid.
Conant (5-1) had their game against Keene Monday evening canceled due to weather; the Orioles host Mascenic on Feb. 9.
Mascenic 63, Wilton-Lyndeborough 21
The Vikings held the Warriors scoreless in the first quarter on their way to their fourth victory over WLC on the season Friday night.
Mascenic’s Gabe Turner led all scorers with 15; Shea Zina added 14 and Jack Cocozella had 12.
Kyler Tremblay had eight for WLC.
Mascenic is now 4-0 on the year with every win coming against WLC. Tuesday’s weather looked likely to wash out everything on the schedule for both teams.
ConVal 64, Milford 45
The defending Division II co-champion Cougars won their first game of the 2021 season at Milford Friday, with Wyatt Davis scoring a game-high 23 and Isaiah Michaels adding 19 points, 11 rebounds and a breakaway dunk.
ConVal (1-0) is at Souhegan Tuesday night.
Conant doubles down on Monadnock
The Orioles made short work of rival Monadnock last week, beating the Huskies on the road Wednesday and then again in Jaffrey Friday night.
In Wednesday’s 60-30 road win, Brynn Rautiola had a game-high 19 points along with nine rebounds and five steals; Emma Tenters had 17 points and 10 board and Mylie Aho had 10 points and five rebounds.
“Great team win at a very tough place to play,” Conant head coach Brian Troy said.
On Friday, Tenters had a game-high 19 points in Conant’s 56-26 victory; Elizabeth Gonyea scored 11 and Rautiola added 10.
The Orioles have won 26 straight games.
Conant (5-0) had their Monday game against Keene postponed due to weather; the two teams meet Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Rindge Memorial School.
Hinsdale 63, Mascenic 40
The Vikings showed improvement in their rematch with Hinsdale Friday night, as guard Kenzie Cormier re sponded to a slow start by upping her aggression, getting t o the free throw line and scoring a team-high 18 points. She “really showed her potential,” coach Troy Shaw said.
Skye Lambert added nine for the Vikings. Angelina Nardolillo had 19 for the Pacers.
