The Temple ZBA spoke to several experts about the proposed Ben’s Maple Products LLC building and business’s impacts on traffic and property values, as well as legal issues associated with the proposal on Tuesday night, the seventh night of hearings for the project.

“We are still receiving testimony, new information, and identifying new issues,” ZBA Chair John Kieley said, and that public comment remains open about the proposed 16,080-square-foot building at the corner of Route 101 and Webster Highway.

The building would house maple sugaring operations and a 3,000 foot store with a deli counter. It’s projected to generate a peak of 63 trips an hour for a mid-day Saturday, and a peak of 48 trips an hour on weekday afternoons, traffic engineer Steve Purnaw told the 39 people on the virtual meeting. “It’s not doubling the traffic on Webster Highway,” he said, with an estimated 492 trips a day. “It is increasing, but it’s not doubling.”

The hearing is scheduled to continue on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
