Cellist Jacob MacKay returns to the Old Meeting House in Francestown on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 4 pm. This will be an outdoor concert on the Meeting House lawn, so please bring a chair and a mask. Tickets are $20.

MacKay will be playing Bach’s Cello Suite #1 in G Major, Memory by Chen Yi, Songs and Poems for Solo Cello by Philip Glass. The concert will take place on the lawn of the Old Meeting House and will follow pandemic guidelines. For those of you who love music and want to get out of the house, this is your chance to socialize and listen to classical music in a safe and lovely setting. Please bring a chair and a mask.

Cellist Jacob MacKay is a Francestown native who believes in music as a vehicle for social change. He is involved with teaching and diverse performance projects that bring classical music to new audiences, highlight cultural challenges in our society, and spotlight underrepresented communities. In 2016, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brandeis University with degrees in Environmental Studies and Cello Performance. He received a master’s degree in 2019 from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, having studied with Norman Fischer.

MacKay is the Resident Cellist and Education Director at the Newport String Project,and serves on the faculty of Salve Regina University, St. George’s School, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music. Jacob has played at The Kennedy Center in Washington and with Yoyo Ma.
