Slippery road conditions caused a two-car crash on River Street, near the Rindge line on Monday, according to police.

Sgt. Craig Tucker of the Jaffrey Police Department responded to the crash at about 6 p.m. Snowy conditions appeared to be a contributing factor in the collision, he said in an interview Tuesday.

Both vehicles were traveling North when the crash occurred.

The first vehicle, a Mercury Mariner SUV driven by Anne Wentworth, 56, of Jaffrey, lost traction on the road and began fishtailing.

Behind her, Gerald Wilmoth, 40, of Saxonโ€™s River, Vermont, was unable to stop, and collided with Wentworthโ€™s vehicle while it was broadside, making contact with the front portion of the car, near the driverโ€™s-side wheel.

Both drivers were the only occupants of the cars.

Both reported possible injury to personnel at the scene, but declined to be taken by ambulance to the hospital, Tucker said. Both their cars sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

River Street was down to a single lane of traffic while the cars were towed, and the scene was cleared around 7 p.m.
