Letter: Impressed by Region 14 ATC

To the editor:

On a recent Sunday, I had the great privilege of visiting the Region 14 Applied Technology Center, housed at ConVal High School, for their annual Open House. Serving students from ConVal, Conant and Mascenic high schools, the Center focuses on career and technical education, and the work they do is quite impressive. Whether it be placing students into regional classrooms for an introduction to careers in education, learning how to create business plans and run a business (the ConVal school store!), producing woodworking items for businesses and for sale, or developing skills in engineering and graphic design, the students and teachers have created an impressive body of work. Through collaborations with local businesses and developing agreements with community colleges to grant college credit for courses completed, the CTE (Career and Technical Education) program serves the workforce needs of our local businesses, communities and our state.

Let me close with a warm thank you to the teachers and students who gave up personal time to work at the Open House on a Sunday afternoon. Your dedication and accomplishments are exemplary, and once again demonstrate the diverse offerings and pathways available in our public schools.
