To the editor:

The town of Peterborough now wants to install a four-car charging station so people who own ninety-thousand-dollar Teslas can recharge them at taxpayer expense.

And we’re expected to foot the bill so the town will “stay relevant”?

Is this a serious proposal? Will those of us who cannot yet afford expensive electric cars get free gas stations? Why not?

People who own electric cars should pay to recharge them just as those of us who still have to drive gasoline-powered cars have to pay to refuel them. And they should do it at home or at a commercial facility.

I look forward to a time when electric cars are cheap enough that everyone can own them, but that time has not arrived. The taxpayers of Peterborough should not have to subsidize those who can well afford to feed their own vehicles. Our property taxes are already high enough, thank you.
