Former Harris Center Naturalist John Kulish will be the topic of discussion at the Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m.
Reprinted on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of The Harris Center, โBobcats Before Breakfastโ is the memoir of Kulishโโ,โ the trapper turned conservationist who became the first naturalist at The Harris Center. Susie Spikol and Meade Cadot from The Harris Center will discuss Kulishโs remarkable life and legacy and read excerpts from the book.
Born in 1911, Kulish spent more than 40 years living off the land hunting, fishing, and trapping at a time when wildlife in the area was abundant. As he began to find the landscape more overrun with people than bobcats in the 1950โs he hung up his guns and traps and found a job as the resident naturalist at Sargent Camp in Hancock. Later he became the naturalist at The Harris Center where he taught in the local schools and led walks in the surrounding woods.
This event is free and all are welcome. For more information, call the bookstore at 924-3543.
