In February, the Dublin Community Center presents “Nature and Inspiration: the art of Jessie Pollock and Erika Radich.” Both artists take inspiration from events in the natural world and this exhibition showcases the various mediums and techniques that they use to express their themes. The opening reception will be on Friday, Feb. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Pollock mainly works in encaustics, which she describes as the oldest form of painting, used by the ancient Egyptians to paint edifices on their sarcophagi. “Encaustics translates “to burn” as it is applied using a hot iron to melt the beeswax. The beauty of encaustic is the ability to build up translucent layers one can see through creating a wonderful sense of depth,” Pollock wrote.

“The natural world and its complexities are the foundation of my art practice. I am mystified, inspired, and humbled by the intricacies of the systems that inform and embody human existence and provide the context in which we live,” Radich said.
