The Redfern Arts Center, Keene State College’s arts presenter of dynamic and multifaceted arts experiences, hits the ground running in January, picking up its 2019-20 performance season with vibrant offerings in dance, music, family theatre, puppetry and more.

The Redfern’s 38th season highlights a unique blend of entertaining and playful performances, while featuring projects that explore the depth and range of the human experience and cultural experiences.

David Dorfman Dance will be in residence from Jan. 21-23 developing a new dance piece “A(Way) Out of My Body” that investigates the out-of-body experience as it relates to intergenerational trauma, and the mental and physical impacts of surviving personal adversity. Movement is Necessary: An Intergenerational Community Workshop with David Dorfman Dance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre. A work-in-progress showing of A(Way) Out of My Body is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Main Theatre.

The electrifying Julian Fleisher and His Rather Big Band will bring down the house on Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre with an interactive performance of American popular music from the year 1975.

On Feb. 22 family audiences will enjoy a charming, food-filled farce “Sammy and Le Grand Buffet” from Shelbourne Falls-based Piti Theare Company. On March 12, the acclaimed puppetry ensemble Sandglass Theater returns to the Redfern with “Babylon (Journeys of Refugees)”, a powerful new production created in response to the world-wide refugee crisis and its impact on communities in the United States using full sized, table-top puppets, moving panoramic scrolls, and original four-part choral.

The season closes on April 2 with the debut of POWER by choreographer Reggie Wilson/ Fist and Heel Performance Group, exploring intersections between Black Shaker worship and movement.
