To the editor:

When I moved to town over six years ago, I remember seeing a small article in the paper inviting area women to join a new group that was forming to support local nonprofit organizations. The concept was a simple one: each woman would write a check to a charity selected by the members of the group collectively. $50 each, four times per year. Fast forward to 2020 and this group, now more than 200 strong has pooled its resources to raise more than $220,000 for dozens of nonprofits who serve our community in all kinds of ways. This same group has also supported the launch of two other area giving groups, having leveraged the power of many to all corners of the Monadnock Region. I am proud to be a member of the 100+ Women Who Care- Monadnock group and to serve on its steering committee. It occurred to me that each year many women move to our region, and many, like me, would love to be part of such a wonderful undertaking. They just may not know about it. If that’s you, I wanted to invite you to join us. I’ve found this collective philanthropy exciting and a great way to learn about organizations that do really important work in our community. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Lucy Hurlin Theatre in the ConVal High School, Route 202, in Peterborough. Registration opens at 6:00 and the meeting starts at 6:30. By 7:30, we will have heard from three worthy charities selected at random from our nominations, and one will be chosen by the members present to receive our collective donation of about $12,000. You can come as a guest or add yourself as a member and cast your vote that evening– either way is fine. You can find out more about our group at https://www.100womenwhocaremonadnock.com/ or find us on Facebook: 100+ Women Who Care Monadnock. Hope you’ll join us.
