Hancock resident and Keene State College official Daniel Henderson sustained a spinal injury while skiing at Mount Snow in Vermont on Friday, Dec. 13. and is in rehabilitation after undergoing surgery for his injuries, according to daughter Caroline Henderson.

“Daniel sustained a serious injury with no clear outcome. He’s making steady, visible progress each day,” Henderson said. “While there are certainly no guarantees, he’ll be making every effort to recover and be able to walk. He has good resources and lots of determination, and those around him continue to be astonished by the grace and resilience he’s shown in the face of such difficult circumstances.”

Henderson was transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston on Monday, and will begin rehabilitation immediately. Henderson, 66, is the director of corporate partnerships and strategic initiatives at Keene State.

“We just want to say how touched Daniel and all of us have been by how many members of the community have already reached out to offer their support, connect us with resources, and sent him their prayers and good wishes,” Henderson said. “While he might not be responding individually right now, he is reading all your messages and it means a lot to him. We know that this love is what keeps Daniel so strong and amazingly resilient during this difficult time, and will keep him strong on the road ahead.”

She said that her family is taking his recovery one step at a time, and is helping him prepare for his rehabilitation process. His close friends and family, as well as community members, have stepped up to offer support in his recovery, she said, and the family will share what support he needs as they make arrangements for his long-term care.

“We so appreciate the community’s immense generosity and willingness to support Daniel and we welcome messages of good wishes and encouragement, which we know mean a lot to him.”
