Branch River Theatre has announced auditions for its March 2020 production of “Good Evening” written by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, and directed by Tyler Strickland. Auditions will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, and Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Marlborough Community House, 160 Main St., Marlborough.

A one-legged actor auditioning for Tarzan, a restaurant with only two dishes on the menu, and an interview with an unimpressed shepherd who witnessed the birth of Jesus…these are just a few of the tales found in “Good Evening”, a revue of comic sketches written and originally performed by Cook and Moore. Veterans of British humor, Cook and Moore were members of the legendary comedy troupe Beyond the Fringe, along with Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller. Often considered the father of modern satire, Beyond the Fringe greatly influenced a generation of comedians that followed, including Monty Python and A Bit of Fry and Laurie.

Actors will perform cold readings from the script. A memorized comedic monologue of your own choosing (under two minutes) is appreciated. Bring your acting resume, or list acting experience on the audition form. Be prepared to list all schedule conflicts between Dec. 15 and March 22. If you are unable to attend on Dec. 9 and 10 but are interested in auditioning, contact Strickland. The table read of the script will be held in December with rehearsals beginning in January. Rehearsals will be held in Swanzey, Keene and Marlborough.

The cast will consist of four to six men of flexible ages. The play is comprised of several sketches and cast members will each play multiple characters. Actors may be cast against type and some will be drag roles.

Performance dates will be March 13-15 and 20-22. All performances will be held at the Marlborough Community House.
