Two vehicles, one in Greenfield and one in Hancock, drove off the road within seven minutes and eight miles of one another after their operators fell asleep at the wheel on Sunday evening. Both operators were uninjured, although both vehicles sustained substantial damage.

According to Greenfield Police Chief Brian Giammarino, Jason Bond, 32, of Greenfield was traveling a blue Dodge pickup westboundย by Zephyr Lake when the vehicle rolled onto its passenger side at 9:31 p.m. Giammarino said the truck endured โ€œpretty severeโ€ damage and had to be towed, but Bond and his dog were uninjured.

Just seven minutes later, at 9:38 p.m., Hancock police were summoned to Bennington Road where a 2017 Honda CRVย drove off the road, missed the guardrail and went over a steep embankment, going airborne before coming to rest near a cluster of trees. According to Police Chief Andrew Wood, operator Megan Kelly, 30, of Hancock, said she had fallen asleep at the wheel and woke up during the crash. She was uninjured. Wood said it took an hour or two for two different wrecker services to extract the vehicle, which sustained heavy damage to its front-end and undercarriage.
