The No. 6 Mascenic girls’ volleyball team showed everything they’re capable of in a thorough 3-0 dismantling of No. 11 Moultonborough to open the NHIAA Division III playoffs Wednesday night.

“We had a little bit of everything tonight – blocking, tipping, good defense – everything was on tonight,” said senior Elizabeth “Bug” Spaulding after the game.

Spaulding (two kills, three aces, 19 serve receives) led the charge for the Vikings with energy, effort and exuberance that spread throughout Mascenic’s ranks.

“I’m super excited, the rest of my team is excited, and whenever we’re super excited about a game, we bring it on the court, pumped up and ready to play. It’s really fun.”

Annika Martel (five kills) and Kylie Millea were dominant at the net as Jaden Horrocks (four assists) set the table and Shelby Babin, Molly Rines (16 serve receives), Sam Brundige and Sam Hughson worked hard to keep the ball off the floor.

Mascenic (12-6) heads to No. 3 Epping (15-2) on Friday for the quarterfinals; the Blue Devils knocked off No. 14 Belmont 3-1 on Wednesday and shut out Mascenic in Epping on Sept. 20.

“We were off that night, I remember,” Spaulding said. “It’s just a different scene there and it’s hard to have energy in that gym, but we’re really focusing on that. We’re totally prepared for the rest of the playoffs, I know we have it to bring it.”
