To the editor:

While I had been leaning towards Beto for awhile, what solidified it for me was seeing him speak in person for the first time at the Lights for Liberty event in Peterborough some months back. For me, Beto is the genuine thing.

I find him to be a man of integrity, honesty, humility and compassion โ€“ important qualities for my next President.

The reason I decided to participate in Lights for Liberty is because I have never believed more strongly than I do now, that all human beings have the right to live a free life and be treated with dignity and respect. Iโ€™m shaken to my core by the plight and the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees at our borders and everywhere. Their only mistake is to flee a country where violence, poverty, and unethical treatment is a way of life, and ask for mercy of a country that takes pride in itself by taking in โ€œthe tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.โ€

My late father came to this country many years ago as a visitor and fell in love with it and what it stood for: a land of opportunity. He believed that no matter who you were, you could make it in this country. It took him seven years to receive a green card and bring his family to his land of opportunity. You see, our family had the luxury of time that many do not.

I believe in Beto. I believe in Beto because he is the one who can change the tide of injustice, the tide of inequality, and the tide of indignity.

Wonโ€™t you join me in supporting the tide for change?
