To the editor:
I attended the Oct. 14, 2019 Peterborough Planning Board meeting, specifically the portion involving the development of the Woodman’s Florist property on Route 202/Concord Street. During the public feedback section of the meeting, several residents (many of whom are abutters) raised serious concerns and objections about the project. With the exception of one motion raised by Judy Wilson Ferstenberg then downvoted, all concerns were disregarded by the Planning Board, as if they had not been made at all. Many objections involved quality of life issues such as visitor parking, a place to deposit plowed snow, a play area for children, etc. The planning board seems to have no oversight of such issues. Instead, they support a developer who’s proposing to build way too many houses for such a small space, hence no extra space for the above items. Not sure how this development improves the quality of life for Peterborough residents, especially the poor souls who end up buying these houses. I long for a day when our planning board prioritizes housing that’s compatible with the neighborhood and considers the needs of abutters and the families who will live in these houses (once built) over the needs of the developers.
