Aiyana Vergo of Wilton introduced Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) at a recent campaign stop in Hollis, and she sent her introductory remarks to the Ledger-Transcript.

“As a local farm girl, I have always loved the earth and have always known I wanted to be an environmental biologist. In my eyes, there is nothing more beautiful than nature and the world around us, and I can’t wait to spend my career studying the world around me.

But with that love comes a fear for both my future and for the beautiful world that I study. When Trump left the Paris Climate Accord, I felt like I wanted to give up. This isn’t just a matter of my passion, but it’s a worry for my livelihood. Whether I’ll be able to get funding, subsidies, or do research is often a matter of politics – and our planet, my life’s work, and my career is in the balance.

That’s why next November I’ll be using my voice – and my power at the voting booth – to help elect Elizabeth Warren. She has not one, but multiple plans to stop the incoming climate crisis affecting our world. She was an original co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, and has plans that include investing $2 trillion dollars in green research and manufacturing, which would create 1.2 million new jobs in green manufacturing, achieving 100% clean energy, and re-committing to the Paris Climate Accord.

Time is running out to act on climate change, and we can’t afford to not take bold action to stop this crisis. That’s why I’m proud to be supporting Elizabeth Warren in this primary – and if you love this earth as much as I do, I’d encourage you to do the same.”
