On Friday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m., Creative Ventures Gallery will welcome guest speaker James M. O’Brien.
In this First Friday event O’Brien will highlight landscape painting of the 18th and 19th centuries and explain how artists such as Turner and Friedrich helped mold artistic conceptions and influence the painters of today. He will also share how these artists influenced his own relationship with the natural world.
A summa cum laude graduate of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, O’Brien later earned his masters degree in Visual Arts and now works within the tradition of romantic landscape painting. His work however has evolved to include new tools and today’s technology to enhance the theatrics of his presentation. He creates landscape paintings that are entirely fabricated and fictitious, supported by his experiences and memories to generate a convincing imaginative realism. As an avid New Hampshire outdoorsman and a Dunbarton resident, he remains immersed in the diverse New England landscape and the study of native wildlife.
Examples of his work will hang in the gallery through mid-September.
This presentation is free and open to all who are interested in the arts. It is the objective of Creative Ventures Gallery to bring the world of two and three dimensional art to the local community, not only through this series of First Friday presentations but also through a wide range of classes and frequently changing exhibitions.
