To the editor:

I was pleased to read Abbe Hamilton’s heartwarming “Recognition for a job well done” by my friend Donny Parkhurst, with whom I served on the Peterborough Budget Committee for years. I know him to be a diligent and devoted public servant and a truly nice guy.

We’ve had some laughs together, Donny and I, and the best one was the day I was driving south on Concord Street expecting to turn right onto Main Street. I was just at the Library when I heard the Fire Alarm go off, glanced over the river and saw the hook-and-ladder about to turn onto Main Street, right toward me. Instead I continued straight on Concord Street and was horrified to see the hook-and-ladder turn in behind me with Donny at the wheel laughing. I made a very fast turn into Bob McQuillen’s yard and the truck passed by, with Donny still chuckling.

With nearly half a century of service to the town, Donny feels like he’s a pretty decent resource. He sure is. Thanks, Donny.
