To the editor:

The Tuesday Community Conversation supporting the arts in this area was robustly attended! And some good energy toward innovative and traditional ideas was put out there. On the topic of supporting the area’s youth, one of the organizations that got a couple of shout-outs was Avenue A, the active drop-in center in Antrim.

There was also some bemoaning that people don’t get over to other towns much to support each other’s activities more broadly. Right after the Conversation ended, I was at Shaw’s and ran into Jacqueline Roland, the Avenue A Coordinator, and was happy to report what good comments her program had gotten.

She told me, and I didn’t know this so maybe you don’t either, that kids from all over the ConVal district go to Avenue A for their classes and activities in computer programming, writing, visual arts… whatever volunteers are willing to go teach there. Students from all the towns can take the bus to Antrim after school – and they do! Jacqueline wants to spread that word to grow their program. So, spread the word!
