Lyndeborough will hold its annual Community Day Aug. 10, with food, a local hike, silent auction and children’s activities.
The day will begin with a 9:30 a.m. hike to the Lower Purgatory Falls. The Conservation Commission will lead the hike, which will be shorter and easier than in years past. Hikers should meet at the parking lot on Purgatory Road, north of Fitch’s Farm Stand.
The Historical Society will also be leading a walking tour of the town’s historic district. The walk will include a brief history of the church, town pound, Town Hall, the former town barn, and the now-gone building that once housed the horse-drawn hearse. The group will meet at the flagpole at Center Hall at 11:30 a.m. At 3 p.m., the historical society will give a talk on the town history under the tent at Center Hall.
The majority of the days activities will be held at Center Hall on 1131 Center Road, including a community marketplace and silent auction. The marketplace will include local crafters, artisans and vendors on the lawn, and will be open from noon to 5 p.m. The silent auction items will be available for viewing in the old town hall for bidding. Bidding will open at noon and close at 6 p.m., and winners will be announced shortly after. The proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Wilton-Lyndeborough Women’s Club.
There will also be a raffle table with a variety of items. Raffle tickets are 50 cents each or three for $1.
A full list of silent auction and raffle items, as well as marketplace vendors, is available on the Lyndeborough town website.
Lunch will be available for purchase from noon to 1:30 p.m. The Lafayette Artillery Company will provide a grilled hamburger or hot dog plate, which includes chips and a drink, for $5. Proceeds benefit the Lafayette Artillery Company. The Wilton-Lyndeborough Women’s Club will host a steak dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., including steak, a baked potato, corn, salad, a drink and a dessert. Hot dog plates will be available for $5. Dinner proceeds will benefit the Women’s Club.
The police and fire departments will have their vehicles on display for children to explore from noon to 3 p.m. The fire department will have an obstacle course for children.
At 1 p.m., magicians from the Granite State Conjurors will hold a magic show. At 4 p.m., Lyndeborough’s Jenn Beyer-Matuszek will lead a sing-a-long with songs from the 50s and 60s under the tent.
At dusk, there will be a screening of a children’s move outside, under the stars at Center Hall. There will be free popcorn and s’mores. Bring your own chair or blanket.
