A Maryland man was airlifted with life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash between a Jeep and a flatbed truck on Route 202 in Antrim Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1:45 p.m., a flatbed tow truck from Tim’s Truck Capital of Epsom was heading northbound on Route 202 just past Old Concord Road when a southbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler drifted into the northbound lane.
“The tow truck tried to take evasive action and get out of the way,” said Antrim Police Chief Scott Lester on the scene, “but the corner of the flat-body bed struck the Jeep and spun it around.”
The Jeep driver, Richard Spedden, 64, of Clarksville, Maryland was trapped in the vehicle; emergency personnel cut the doors off and transferred Spedden into the waiting DHART helicopter, which transported him to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
Two teenage passengers in the Jeep were transported to Concord Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the tow truck driver, Leonard Corson, 32, of Allenstown suffered a possible leg injury and was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital, Lester said.
Route 202 was closed until about 7:20 p.m., with traffic detoured onto Old Concord Road.
On Wednesday, a Dartmouth Hitchcock spokesperson said Spedden was not on the list of patients the hospital is authorized to release information.
