To the editor:
Governor Sununu recently nominated NH Attorney General Gordon MacDonald to become Chief Justice of the NH Supreme Court.
I urge the NH executive council to block this nomination because MacDonald will not represent the interests of NH citizens, and, I base my opinion on the following points: 1.) he advised our state legislature that the blatantly unconstitutional SB193 school voucher bill that would have diverted public money to private schools was constitutional. 2.) he represented the opioid manufacturer and drug pusher Purdue Pharma. 3.) he backed governor Sununu in not joining other states in the 2017 network neutrality lawsuit. 4.) under his โleadershipโ as AG, the department of justice failed to join a 21-state action to intervene and defend the Affordable Care Act from a lawsuit to dismantle it, and it also declined to join another lawsuit to sue the Trump administration for a โdomestic gag orderโ rule that would withhold federal funding to Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health clinics.
His decisions would undermine public education, exacerbate our opioid crisis, line the pockets of the cable companies, and strip health care from our citizens.
This isnโt a nomination to traffic court; it is a nomination to the court that will likely rule on issues ranging from public school funding and school vouchers, to election rights, to a womanโs right to make her health care decisions, giveaways to the fossil fuel industry, etc. Just say no.
