HancockOil and water at library art show

Paper and canvas, oil paints and watercolors — their mediums may not blend, but when they mix, you get an art show!

Kin Schilling and Marilyn Wyzga have applied their distinct styles to similar subjects: mountains, animals, water, light. Their art work will be on display at the Hancock Library June 22 through July 31, with an opening reception on June 23 from 3 to 5 p.m.

While each works in multiple mediums, this show will feature Wyzga’s fluid, bright watercolors and Schilling’s charming and evocative oils.

These two Hancock friends first met over a garden. Since then, they’ve built a water temple yurt, paddled in kayaks, chased after chickens, walked sheep, laughed, cooked up good food …. and painted. Where they live and what they do informs their art.

“Painting makes you slow down, really look and see,” Wyzga said.

“Then you turn around and see the world with different eyes.” Schilling agrees. “I’m always aware of the light on the mountain or the apple orchard in the morning, that can be so different on different days.”

The exhibit can be viewed during regular library hours: Monday and Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the library (525-4411) before a visit to ensure no special events are scheduled at that time.
