A 17-year-old Conant student has been charged with criminal threatening and witness tampering, connected with an incident at the high school last week.
The student’s name is not being released, as they are a juvenile, Jaffrey police said in a press release Wednesday.
The charges have been filed with the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey. The criminal threatening charge is a misdemeanor. The witness tampering charge would be a class B felony, if committed by an adult, police said.
Jaffrey-Rindge Superintendent Reuben Duncan received emails from parents on Sunday “indicating that their children had mentioned to them that an individual was going to come to the middle/high school and perform an act of violence,” according to an email sent to parents on Monday.
Police have been present at the high school this week as a precautionary measure, police said. During a School Board meeting Monday, Lt. Todd Muilenberg assured parents that at this point in the investigation, there is no indication the threat was made against the school or the student body as a whole, but to a specific individual.
