Water bill is going up

To the editor:

The upcoming purchase of a new water supply means that an average user’s water bill is estimated to increase about 30%. This means that if you currently pay $800/year for water, this will increase to $1040/year. Perhaps we might consider rewarding responsible users by pricing water so that customers who use an average or lower than average amount of water, pay a lower rate. According to the EPA website, this is a common practice to encourage fair pricing and conservation. We should also abolish the minimum water bill, this is not done in neighboring areas and discourages water conservation. People should not be charged for water they don’t use.
