The ConVal boys’ tennis team clinched their first postseason berth in five years on Friday, and the Conant girls’ team punched their playoff ticket as well.

BOYS’ TENNIS

ConVal clinches

ConVal needed some wins last week to make the playoffs. They got their first on Wednesday, beating Plymouth 5-4 behind strong play from their top three. Zach Kriebel (8-5), Everrett Landers (8-0) and Taylor Burgess (8-2) won their singles matches and Kriebel/Burgess (8-2) and Landers/Noah Krason (8-4) won at doubles.

The Cougars’ postseason hopes came down to Thursday’s match against Kingswood, and the Cougars didn’t disappoint. ConVal swept the Knights and got their whole roster on the court in the process.

Kriebel (8-1), Landers (8-0), Burgess (8-0), Liam McCall (8-2), David MacKay (8-2) and Riley Momenee (8-3) won at singles, and Kriebel/Burgess (8-0), Jamison Coty/Dylan Daume (8-1) and Jaimini Viles/Brady Proctor (8-1) all won doubles.

ConVal finishes at 8-6 and clinches the No. 6 seed in Division II. The Cougars travel to Souhegan (11-3) on Tuesday to face a Saber team that beat ConVal twice in the regular season.

Conant just misses

The Conant boys finished tied with Sanborn and Kearsarge at 7-7, but Kearsarge held the tiebreaker over both and took the eighth and final playoff spot in Division III.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Conant locks down fourth seed

The Orioles swept Trinity on Wednesday and thedid the same to Stevens Friday to conclude the regular season at 12-2.

Against Trinity, Sarah Smith (8-1), Abby Wheeler (8-0), Elizabeth Gonyea (8-1), Kayley Bennett (8-2), Emily Muilenberg (8-0) and Lily Bower (8-0) all won at singles, and Smith/Muilenberg (8-4), Wheeler/Bennett (8-6) and Bower/Victoria Bennett (8-4) won at doubles.

On Friday, Conant played a truncated match and beat Stevens 7-0.

Smith (8-0), Muilenberg (8-2), Bower (8-1) and Victoria Bennett (8-3) won at singles, and Smith/Muilenberg (8-0), Bower/Bennett (8-0) and Samantha Newton/Tori Feyrer (8-1) won at doubles.

Conant’s only two losses of the season were both against Kearsarge (12-2), the No. 3 seed. The Orioles get the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Profile (10-4) Wednesday at 4 p.m.

ConVal ousted by tiebreaker

The Cougars finished the regular season with the same record as Kingswood, 7-7, but since the Knights beat ConVal in their head-to-head match, they grabbed the eighth and final playoff spot in Division II.

ConVal did all they could last week, beating Milford 6-3 and Manchester West 9-0, but it wasn’t enough for a playoff spot.

Warriors finish with a win

Wilton-Lyndeborough beat Monadnock 8-1 in their final regular season home match on Wednesday, honoring senior No. 1 Emma Krug and exchange student Lunara Irashova after the win.

Krug (8-3), Irashova (8-5), Elizabeth Jacob (8-0), Ella Kelley (8-2) and Senja Sours (8-4) won at singles, and Krug/Irashova (8-6), Erin MacDonald/Jacob (8-6) and Ella Kelley/Madeleine Straw (8-5) won at doubles.

Irashova received the Coaches’ Award for exceeding all expectations on the court this spring, head coach Fran Bujak said.

WLC was swept twice in a doubleheader at undefeated St. Thomas on Friday to finish the season out of the playoffs at 2-12.
